Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation’s Dementia Specific Curriculum meets all Florida Department of Elder Affairs standards as required by Florida Statute 58A-5.0191.
This training program has been approved by the Department of Elder Affairs for Nursing Homes, Hospice, and Adult Day Care (ADC AD 9782, 9813) until November 29, 2024.
Curriculum includes narrated slides and brief “Check your knowledge” quizzes after each module.
“ALZ2 Training” objectives:
- Identify other conditions that may result in symptoms that mimic Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias (ADRD)
- Understand what is currently known about the causes of ADRD & how it is diagnosed
- Understand how the disease progresses and its symptoms, behaviors & challenges associated with each stage
- Identify & manage behaviors common to those living with ADRD
- Provide personal care to persons living with ADRD guided by the principles of independence & dignity
- Identify strategies for assisting the caregiver with ADLs
- Help persons living with ADRD participate in group & individual activities that are positive & rewarding; identify & employ stress management techniques & activities
- Understand the impact of ADRD on family members & implement strategies for involving family members in the program
- Create an environment that is safe, secure & supportive for both the persons living with ADRD & the staff
- Identify common ethical conflicts that may arise when caring for persons living with ADRD
